Psychotherapists Reshie

Dr Reshie Joseph, MBchB MSc

Reshie is a Counselling Psychologist who specialises in treating PTSD, Complex Psychological Trauma, Addictions, and other Disorders of Extreme Stress Not Otherwise Specified (DESNOS).

Overview

Reshie began his professional career as a doctor. He chose to leave medical practice over 20 years ago, fully retrained and now works as a practising psychotherapist, and as clinical director of the Living Free Institute that specialises in the non-pharmacological psychotherapeutic treatment of trauma, addictions and other disorders of extreme stress.
In the past, he has worked in multiple and varied environments, from the prison service in Singapore to the luxury-end of the private sector. As Head of the Trauma program at The Cabin in Chiang Mai, Thailand he led a team of counsellors in delivering Asia’s first full inpatient trauma program. He would go on to set up The Cabins’ outpatient facility in Singapore as Head Counsellor in 2015 which included the first fully dedicated intensive outpatient program for trauma in Asia.

In 2019, as the clinical director of a small bespoke addiction facility in Bali, he headed the clinical team responsible for setting up the facility, creating a bespoke trauma-based clinical program, writing the clinical manual from scratch, training the clinical staff in the use of that program and running all of the clinical functions of the facility. More recently, he did the same thing in New South Wales, Australia (2024), again creating a fully manualised bespoke trauma-based clinical program to treat trauma and stressor-related disorders and substance use disorders.

Now as clinical director of Living Free, he specialises in the psychotherapeutic treatment of trauma and stressor-related disorders, substance use disorders, and other disorders of extreme stress not otherwise specified (DESNOS). Using his background in medicine, psychology and neuroscience, he has created a unique system for the treatment of trauma, as well as for the building of resilience and recovery for an exhausted world. This treatment system, its companion manual, as well as a low-cost training webinar in how to use the system will soon be available via this website in early 2026.

A noted public speaker, Reshie is regularly invited onto podcasts and conferences to speak on the subject of trauma and has published his first book titled “A beginner’s guide to trauma” which is available on this website. A list of some podcasts where he is featured as a guest is listed below. His public speaking can also be accessed through the living free YouTube channel.
